Stranded or not
Having had an incident with a dead battery in Long Island Sound recently, I thought I would pass this information along. The bill for my jump start would have been $400, and it took him all of 10 minutes to get me on my way. It did not cost me anything because I had the right coverage. Stranded or not.
With a typical boat policy, you have a limit of $300 for Watercraft Towing and Labor, but it’s more of a reimbursement coverage. You call the dispatch company, they get you a tow boat, you pay the bill, Progressive reimburses you for it up to your limit. A little bit of a hassle.
They recently introduced a new coverage this year called Sign and Glide which is an enhanced towing coverage and includes dispatch service, unlimited towing and labor, no deductible, and direct bill to the company. All for $30 per year. When your policy renews, we can add Sign and Glide for $30 per year….or re-write the policy.
The other people on my boat that day appreciated that I had towing coverage at all. Captain Tim of TowBoatUs did a great job getting us on our way. He jump started us, we signed the paperwork and we were on our way. That’s the peace of mind that comes from having the right coverage. It’s the difference between having the right coverage and being stranded.
So, if you still have the old Emergency Towing Coverage, consider increasing the Emergency Towing and Labor Coverage to $2,500. The cost would be minimal for the rest of the policy term. Solid peace of mind for the rest of the summer….good peace of mind.
So, what are you waiting for?
