Thinking About Self-Storage? Here’s What You Need to Know About Insurance

Hi Clients and Prospects,

If you have items in a self-storage unit, you might assume they’re fully covered under your homeowners or renters policy—but that’s not always the case.

Most homeowners policies limit coverage for property in storage to just 10% of your personal property limit. That means if your homeowners policy provides $100,000 in contents coverage, you’d only have $10,000 for property in storage. Some insurance companies allow you to increase this limit by specifically adding storage coverage to your policy, providing much higher protection.

Also, keep in mind that many storage facilities require you to have insurance, but the coverage they offer is usually very minimal—often with low limits and limited protection.

If you’re storing high-value items, seasonal gear, or business inventory, let’s talk about making sure you have the right coverage. Reply to this email or give me a call to review your options.
